Our main subjects are advancement of multimedia information communication technology, and its application to medical treatment and education etc.. The following three research subjects are now going on.

Compression coding and high efficiency transmission of multimedia information

We research the next generation cellular phone, digital broadcast, and technology of making base for ITS etc., which are the nucleus of multimedia information communication from both sides of software and hardware. And movement compensation prediction coding and frequency transformation coding applied in MPEG etc. are very important for capturing the highest picture quality with the minimum quantity of information. Furthermore, we challenge 3 dimension (the space) image coding and intelligent coding using vision characteristic and recognition characteristic of human being. A trouble of compression information in a transmission path sometimes causes great damage in playback picture quality. We have been engrossed in its countermeasures such as selecting an optimal transmission method adapted compression coding, and adaptation coding conversion using a conversion method adapted the transmission path, etc..

Advancement of multimedia contents producing technology

After digital broadcast brings many channels, it is required that TV programs are diversified. The time will come when an individual produces and broadcasts a program like presenting a homepage. And contents (programs) will be exhausted, then it is necessary to simplify the technology of producing programs. Although stage setting and extras are omitted in recent movies by utilizing CG technology, the PC soft named g One-man Hollywood g which makes even one person possible to produce programs, is being developed in our laboratory.

To be more concrete, it transforms a face (a facial expression) or an action into ones of the others (actors / actresses), and a voice into one of a radio actor / actress. Moreover, the soft will make an animation-character move freely in the screen, and will record half-automatically.

Multimedia information communication technology applied to medical treatment and education

We are proceeding with research of multimedia information communication applied to a new type of distant medical treatment and the correspondence course of education.

To be more concrete, they are the diagnosis supporting software to quantify dementia of a human brain, which named g OOBOKE KOBOKE g, and the supporting software of the correspondence course of education, which named g DENJUKU g. For example, g OOBOKE KOBOKE g measures the recognition ability of human faces, evaluates brain damage, and also aims at early detection and rehabilitation of slight brain damage, applying image processing technology for TV telephone. g DENJUKU g will be able to construct new educational environment combining studying for themselves using PC with individual guidance using bi-direction communication like data processing education.

In addition, Our researches extend to g preconception processing g and g illusion VR g using psychological illusion in human senses of sight and hearing

It is the main purpose of our laboratory to master specialized knowledge and to learn how to proceed with research through subjects. And also students will be requested to build their characters deserving of the degree, to make themselves possible to become independent in society, and to graduate with confidence such as g if you want to do it, you can do it! g
